OUR INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS UNVEILED
🔋 BESS is a natural and logical necessity in renewable energy. 🔋
This topic was the focus of a recent interview on Bulgarian National Television with SUNOTEC Head of Operations & Management Ivan Chatalbashev and Photomate Country Manager for Bulgaria Nikolay Ivanov.
So far, 36 Gigawatt hours of energy storage facilities have been installed in Europe and Bulgaria is not lagging with almost 3 Gigawatt hours planned to be installed by spring 2026.
“It is a new age for the renewables sector. Batteries facilitate the smoother and correct balancing of the energy system. It is a profitable and recyclable technology that upon proper and creative management could have a great return on investment.”
SUNOTEC is the largest operator of BESS in Bulgaria. We have also received the first liquid-cooled batteries in Europe for two of our current projects in Bulgaria, offering enhanced efficiency and capacity compared to air-cooled batteries.

120 SUNOTEC colleagues supported the Bulgarian national basketball team led by the phenomenal Alexandar (Sasha) Vezenkov in the 2025 Euroqualifier against Sweden in Botevgrad, Bulgaria. 🇧🇬
It was an honour and a thrill for SUNOTEC to back the Bulgarian Basketball Federation in this impossibly suspenseful game where Bulgaria was victorious by 2 points following an overtime. 🏀
One-third of a sector in Botegvrad Arena was coloured with the Bulgarian team’s jerseys and SUNOTEC’s logo, which were proudly worn by our colleagues who travelled to support Bulgaria on site.
It is part of the SUNOTEC Foundation’s mission to promote sports and facilitate clubs, federations and teams in bringing sports to as many people as possible.
We have set a good example by engaging our colleagues not just to support the Bulgarian national team, but also to help out in the organisation of the event as volunteers. 🙌

BESS was the focus at the Kapital Green Summit 2025 held in Sofia this week during the interesting panel “Empowering a Low-Carbon Future: The Importance of Battery Energy Storage Systems”.
SUNOTEC was represented by its CEO and main shareholder, Kaloyan Velichkov.
“We have been witnessing a major shift in the development of the renewable energy sector. Just two years ago, the notion of solar PV and battery storage co-location was the exception, and stand-alone BESS projects were even rarer. Now in Bulgaria there is almost no project that is not co-located with batteries. Even the projects we have already developed as solar PV parks will now follow the trend of co-location with BESS,” states Velichkov.
SUNOTEC is one of the European leaders in BESS implementation. We are especially experienced in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Denmark. The global trend is undeniable: Over half of our contracts are for co-located projects, and the number of requests for stand-alone BESS projects is growing, completely changing our financial model to incorporate the capability of shifting energy around the clock.
SUNOTEC launched its first co-located project in Bulgaria in September 2024 with 61 MWh of BESS and a solar park with the capacity of 32 MWp. We are currently developing more than 15 projects throughout the country, either as co-locations or as standalone BESS projects.
