Case Study: Large-Scale PV Power Plant & Battery Storage Integration

Overview

SUNOTEC delivered one of Bulgaria’s most advanced large-scale solar parks, integrating a high-capacity battery energy storage system on a challenging 47-hectare site. Constructed between November 2024 and May 2025, the project showcases SUNOTEC’s ability to execute complex multi-technology infrastructure under tight timelines, steep terrain, and dense equipment configurations.

The installation combines nearly 60 MWp of photovoltaic capacity with an extensive BESS architecture, enabling enhanced grid stability, peak-load management, and long-term energy resilience. The result is a next-generation renewable energy asset built for durability, efficiency, and high production yield.

Key Challenges

The project demanded construction on steep and uneven terrain with inclines reaching up to 40%, requiring extensive grading and terrain stabilization before any installation work could begin. At the same time, the dense integration of more than 100,000 PV modules, 24 large LFP battery containers and nearly 300 inverter stations placed exceptional pressure on electrical planning and on-site coordination. The construction timeline of just six months, spanning winter conditions, added another layer of complexity, with low temperatures affecting cabling work, concrete curing and daily logistics.

How SUNOTEC Overcame Those Challenges

Through advanced engineering and a carefully optimised site design that ensured efficient land use, stable foundations and secure zones for the battery systems. Multiple workstreams were executed in parallel, allowing mechanical, civil and electrical works to progress simultaneously and maintain the ambitious schedule. High-precision logistics and tight coordination between teams ensured that PV components, battery containers, transformer stations and switchgear were delivered and installed in the correct sequence. Leveraging deep integrated expertise in both PV and BESS systems, SUNOTEC ensured seamless electrical integration, stable energy flow and full grid compliance. With 44 machines and more than 250 specialists on site, the team maintained productivity, safety and high quality throughout the entire construction period.
